History

The History of BMW Clubs

From a group of motorcyclists in 1928 to the world's largest network of car clubs

1928

The Beginnings

The history of the BMW Clubs goes back to 1928, when a group of BMW motorcyclists founded the BMW Club Düsseldorf. The club's chairman, Friedhelm Günter, was president of BMW Clubs Europe for many years and later chairman of the BMW Clubs International Council. Over decades of development, the BMW Clubs in North America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, Asia and Europe grew into a strong community.

1950

Going Worldwide

The community of BMW enthusiasts stretched from one end of the world to the other — from the BMW Club of Japan to the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America.

1981

International Council

Since 1981, the global BMW Clubs have come together to form an umbrella organization — the BMW Clubs International Council — to create clear, internationally binding rules for the clubs' activities and public presence.

2026Today

Today

Today, the international BMW club organization — with more than 120,000 members — is the world's largest network of clubs representing the brand of a car and motorcycle manufacturer.
